Cat Talk Time

Hi kitties, we are participating in Cat Talk time, a fun event dreamed up by the gang at Zoolatry.  We have been trying hard to come up with some jargon that is specific to our house and we have managed three words.

1. Mama Blanket - this is our favourite faux fur throw, it is so soft and cozy, it feels like our cat mum's fur so that is how it got the name.  Here you can see Jimmy and Casper enjoying the mama blanket.
Mama blanket bliss

2. Crow's Nest - All of us boys enjoy hanging out on the cat tree, it has different levels but the coveted spot is the very top which we call the crow's nest.  We alternate throughout the day who is up top, here we are waiting for Archie to finish his turn.
Come on Archie, hurry up
Wow, I can see for miles up here!
3.  Nose Balls - mum has always used this word to refer to the rounded balls on a cat's face where the whiskers grow out of.  She thinks this is one of the most attractive features on a cat.  Here are some of our beautiful nose balls for your viewing pleasure :-)
Ben's right nose ball
Casper's powder puff nose balls
Jimmy's slightly blurry but prominent nose balls
Archie's kitten nose balls

Thoughtful Thursday

This picture was taken in March 2009, we had only adopted Ben the month before.  Casper was (and is) the most wonderful and gentle big brother, this is one of my all-time favourite pictures of them together. Do you think Casper is telling baby Ben about life?
happy boys
Now this next picture was taken just last month of Archie and Jimmy and I posted it already on the blog, but isn't it funny how the two younger brothers are almost in the exact same position two years later?
dreamers
PS - The boys would have loved to go to Bora Bora with Gracie and the rest of the CB, but since I'm hopeless at photoshop, sadly they had to stay home.

International Box Day

My boys love to be in, on, or around boxes and there is always great excitement in the house when boxes are about.  So I thought it would be easy just to go to my picture folders and they would be teeming with box shots.  They were not.  Perhaps I just don't have the camera out when the boys are boxing.  I am pretty certain that I'm not alone in thinking cats love boxes, otherwise International Box Day would not have come into being!

Here is Casper box diving into my Paw-it-Forward loot which was ready to mail out...I had to seal up the boxes in a hurry or he would have made off with something - LOL!
Jimmy had only been with us a little while when generous Pam from the Califurrrrnia 5 (no blog yet but we're hoping) sent us this amazing package filled with goodies for the boys...you can see Jimmy jumped into the box immediately and made a selection

This is Archie diving head first into the Paw-it-Forward package that Amy from House of Cats sent us.  It was laced with nip toys and the cats loved it!
When I realized that I didn't have any pics of Ben in a box, I put out a shoe box with the hope of coaxing him in for a shot.  He almost went all the way in, then decided just to have a chew on the tissue instead - LOL!

I think it still proves the attraction of a cat to a box is undeniable!!!

Zoom groom love!!!

Hi kitties, we got a zoom groom last weekend and the cats are crazy for it!
I love it when Mum zooms my fluffy tail!
Now I should mention that Casper has always loved to be brushed and Furminator-ed, Ben was less enthusiastic but tolerated it and Archie and Jimmy....NO WAY!
Zoom groom my tummy Mummy!
But, since we got the zoom groom, everyone is lining up for a turn including Archie and Jimmy who seem to love it!!!
Seriously folks, I shed a lot even though I have short hair!
Little Jimmy wants to be zoomed too which makes me happy because I couldn't get near him with the brush!
Jimmy says "the zoom groom ROCKS!!!"

Wednesday Wellness

Let me tell you cats and kittens there was big drama at our house yesterday.  ALL the cats went to the V-E-T!
interested in the carriers until they were put inside
Benjamin and Archie were scheduled for their annual check-ups and were going anyway at this time of year.  Casper missed his annual in November so I added him to the check-up schedule and somehow he had never been micro-chipped, so he got one yesterday too.  Jimmy had some health issues when he first came to us and we decided not to micro-chip him at that time but wait until he was bigger and stronger.  Well yesterday was as good a time as any since his brothers were going, so I made an appointment for him also.  Off we went four cats in two carriers to see the fabulous and patient Dr. D.
Casper and Archie in the big carrier
Ben and Jimmy in the smaller carrier

Casper was of course an absolute angel, he is so gentle and easy and that even extends to the vet; he weighs 11lbs.  Benjamin was also a gem (perhaps terrified) and did not put up any fuss at all; he is a petite 8lbs.  Archie who is a very happy-go-lucky boy struggled a little when he had his temperature taken (I would too) and gave a few growls when he got his vaccination; weighs in at a robust 12lbs.  Little Jimmy at ten months old is 7lbs. and had the most disagreeable reaction to his micro-chip.  He hissed and growled and tried to bite the vet, he wriggled from my grasp and hid under my coat.  He was not happy but I promise you it was worse for me.  He is such a loving boy, I have NEVER seen him like that!  As a result the doctor could not get the chip injected and had to try again in "the back" where I'm sure a few technicians were enlisted to hold him steady.
finished and ready to go home
Well thank goodness that is over for a while.  Jimmy will have his annual check in November but the other three are now done until next year...phew!  When we got home and opened the carriers they all bounded out simultaneously and much bathing ensued.  Everyone seemed to recover quickly however Casper talked about it all night and mummy had to have a big glass of wine!
Jimmy not looking too thrilled about the whole experience

Mancat (and a boycat) Monday

The other day all four cats were on the bed snoozing and it was the first time Jimmy had joined the boys.  Jimmy doesn't usually stay still for long so I was very excited and wanted to get a picture.  Only the bedside table lamp was on and that was not enough light, I thought I better turn on the overhead.  I grabbed the remote for the light but unfortunately turned on the ceiling fan by mistake.  The noise woke them from their slumber and they were all fascinated.  Except of course for sweet deaf Casper, he felt the disturbance on the bed by didn't know which way to look.
That's not supposed to be on this time of year!
Benjamin the brave (not really but lets go with it) rushed in for a closer look.  Casper still hasn't figured out which way to look and Archie has already lost interest and may lick his paw instead of listening to Ben show off for little Jimmy.
Stand back Jimmy I'll take care of this
By this time I've turned off the fan and it has slowed.  Although Ben is still giving me his best mighty mancat pose, Jimmy has lost interest.  Casper however has figured out there is something going on behind him.
Gee thanks for telling me guys
Regardless of the fan interruption, it was lovely to see them all snoozing together :-)
