Mancat Monday

I didn't have a chance to make a post last Friday, if I had it would have been called Fracas on Friday!  Let me explain....

On Thursday night, Archie and Casper went to the vet for their annual check-ups (Jimmy and Ben had already been for theirs back in May and Kip is on the November rotation with Rio).  After Archie's exam I asked to have his claws trimmed because he is so squirmy and difficult when we do it at home why not take advantage of some professional assistance while we were there.  So off to the back he went with a technician while Casper had his turn with the doctor.  All went well, they were both given clean bills of health and we returned home relieved there wouldn't be any more vet visits for a few months because I find the ordeal more upsetting than the cats!

We're healthy mancats :-)
However, once we arrived home something odd happened.  Jimmy started chasing Archie around the house and hissing at him!  Poor Archie, already stressed from the vet visit hid under our bed.   Perhaps Archie smelled more vet-like than Casper because he went into the back room at the animal hospital, or perhaps Jimmy was just agitated because the carriers had been out and that is never good.

Hey you at the bowl, you stink!
Whatever the reason for his odd behaviour, I though things would resolve overnight but in the morning Jimmy was still being nasty to his brother.  I was really quite distressed about the situation because my boys usually get on so well together.  I posted my problem to our CWB (Cats With Blogs) page on Facebook and got some great advice, especially from Teri of Curlz and Swirlz and Janiss, assistant to Sparkle the Designer Cat.   Teri told me that this is a very common occurrence and that Archie probably smelled like "fear" as well as "vet" and this wasn't sitting right with Jimmy.

my brother Jimmy was mean to me :-(

She suggested rubbing Archie with something that smelled like me (PJ's for example) and that this might help to counter his BO problem.  She also suggested sponge bathing both cats, swapping their bedding and of course separating them if need be.  I thought I'd start with the easiest approach first and spent the day stroking Archie with my PJ's then petting Jimmy with them too.  Janiss' recommendation was to rub both cats with catnip and get everyone happy and smelling of something good.  Luckily we had some industrial strength BC catnip that Archie's girlfriend Tiri from Clooney's Num-Num Fund had sent to us, so needless to say that idea went over very will with the boys!!!  I also dashed out and picked up some Feliway comfort spray which I misted on every cat surface I could think of and two refills for the plug-ins I regularly use that happened to be empty!

mum says I was naughty to chase Archie

All of these efforts combined seemed to get the situation under control and by bedtime on Friday harmony had descended on the house once more.  Thank you to everyone who posted a comment or idea on Facebook, it was great to get so much support :-)

Tuxie Tuesday

Ben can be a naughty boy sometimes...

Here he is playing with Archie's tail.

Archie does a double take to see what Ben is up to.

Jimmy looks on and says "you are crazy brother!"

Ben takes no notice and continues to play.

Dad lends a hand (literally) to keep the peace.

Ben redirects his attention to a bump under the sheets....crisis averted :-)

Gingersday with Archie

Archie the Bold: Our quirky Archie was so completely fearless when he was a kitten, it is how he got his name which means brave and genuine.  He is somewhat of a loner, but he faithfully sleeps at the end of our bed by my feet every night. His affection is exuberant and he headbutts us with the strength of a battering ram.

sleeping blissfully

He loves to be stroked but can't seem to make up his mind who he wants to stroke him. He jumps back and forth between Robert and I over and over and over only settling for a few pets from each of us before he's off again, we joke that he has ADD.  Regardless of Archie's eccentricities, he is a very happy boy which in the long run is really what counts.

beautiful gingersnap

Tomorrow it's Jimmy...

Mancat Monday

I thought I'd share these pics of Archie I took yesterday...

He was just coming down the stairs after having a drink of water.

Can you see the water droplets still on his chin fur?

I thought he looked adorable.

Here's an extreme close up :-)

Gah, so cute!!!!

What's in a Name

Hi folks Archie here to tell you the story of how I got my name.  If you want to read about how some of my friends got their names also, pop on over to the Tabby Cat Club.

When mum and dad adopted me my name was Marshall and I was about five months old.  Mum wasn't so keen on the name so she was looking for ideas on a website that had cat names and their meanings.

I was not a shy kitten in fact the first moment my bedroom door was opened after my quarantine period, I scampered down the stairs straight into the living room and began playing with toys!

In fact mum insists I said "tada, here I am" but I think she's fibbing on that one.   For a while my mum and dad considered calling me Rufus or Russell which are both supposed to mean red but those names didn't seem to suit me.  Then mum came across the name Archibald which means bold and she thought that was perfect for me because I was such a brave boy.

so I lived happily ever after with the name Archie :-)

Friday Fun with Archie

There is a small heart in this picture, can you see it? (you might have to biggify the pictures)
What about from this angle?
I'm a little modest, I don't show it to just anyone
Tiri my heart is just for you :-)

I'll give you a clue...look at my nose!

Note from mum:  Archie's heart-shaped nose freckle is a completely natural occurrence, the pictures have not been altered or photoshopped in any way...believe me I don't have the skills even if I wanted to - LOL!!!

What Would Archie Do?

The other day, Tabby Cat Club posed several different scenarios to their tabby members and asked what they would do.  This is the question that Archie answered...

     Situation #2
Your human returns from work depressed and starts telling you all about her bad day. What would you do:
a)    Listen and try to find a solution for her.  Her problems are your problems
b)   Paste a concerned look on your face and pretend to care while thinking how glad you are that   you do not have to work
c)   After determining that this problem will not in any way affect your current napping schedule, walk away

Archie would listen intently
Show me his tummy to let me know there is more to life than my silly work problems

Then snuggle in for a cuddle to make sure I was feeling all better :-)

Such a helpful tabby boy!!!

PS - The background for my new banner is a close up of Archie's flank to support "Going Orange for Animals" in the month of April.  Click the badge on my sidebar for more info.

Friends on Friday

Way back in August when Sammy, Andy and Shelly were having their fund raising auction, a beautiful red pashmina caught my eye.  I thought that the vibrant colour would be a nice lift during the dreary winter months so I placed an opening amount in the comments.
Archie's girlfriend Neytiri wanted to participate in the auction too and placed a higher amount.  Well, there was no way I could bid against Tiri, Archie would NEVER forgive me!  So that was that, no scarf....

Can you imagine my delight when I returned home on Monday after a particularly crummy day and found a parcel in my mailbox containing the bright red pashmina?!  Aren't Tiri, Clooney and their mum just soooo thoughtful!!!  Thank you friends for your generous gift :-)
