Thursday in the Garden

::meowwwww::
Hi kitties, it's gardening day so I thought I would show you the expansion of our little urban garden.  We had a small patch of grass at the front of our house which wasn't doing very well so we decided to rip it all out and make the entire area a garden.  We already had some plantings up by the porch and down by the sidewalk but we needed to fill in the middle.  We've added purple liatris, lavender, yellow day lilies, bee balm, lambs ears, coreopsis, delphinium and a few others that I've already forgotten the names of...oops I never save the tags they come with!  Several bags of black wood chips were the finishing touch and I am very pleased with the results :-)

The garden looks great! We especially like the butterfly on the bee balm. We grew bee balm in pots for a couple of years on our deck, to attract hummingbirds, but it always developed a fungus which was ugly. We think it doesn't do so well in a pot. Or had too much shade.

It looks great Cat! I love the idea of black wood chips-it makes for a nice finish.I think I'll look into that for our new flower beds! :)Also will look into getting a bee balm plant. I love the idea that it would attract butterflies!! I have so much to learn about gardening. So exciting!! Great job , you must be thrilled! :)

Well Done!! I love the moonbeam flowers.
You and Robert have planned and planted a beautiful urban garden.

I agree with Robert JD's music is good traveling music.

Wow, that really looks good. You did a great job. What fun to have a little garden like that. We don't have but one flower here because of the heat and the no rain. Some of the trees are even dying. Take care.

Gosh, the expansion of your urban garden is so beautiful!!! Our Momma wishes she could have a garden, but it is all rock landscaping here, so her hanging impatiens on the deck are all she has, hee hee!

The garden looks very inviting..and I really like the purple touches. We have lambs ear (I love the soft "fur" and the little purple flowers) but we found it became invasive if we weren't diligent enough in keeping it contained. We also added cat mint (nepeta) - little purple flowers, nice trailing habit and apparently tastes great for our cats. It grows well here in Manitoba so likely does even better in Ontario.

Your garden looks so lovely!! We keep tags with plants so that we know what they are. But I think the garden looks prettier without these tags :-)
