Molly and I would like to say thank you to all who responded to my post yesterday. I was doubting my judgement and it has been enormously reassuring to hear from so many mums in the CB who shared their experiences, advice and compassion with me. I feel that I am armed with a wealth of senior cat information now and the next time I am at the vet to have Molly's blood levels checked we will discuss: sub-q fluids (and how to know when it is time for that), medication for her nausea and Adequan injections to ease her arthritis!
For those who inquired, Molly still eats and drinks well at this point and also everything is fine at the back end too. I think one of the key issues will to be to watch her food consumption as it seems the most prevelent symptom of imminent danger is that kitties stop eating. I will also trust in the fact that I know Molly better than anyone else and I will be able to read the signs she gives me when her time approaches. For now I am certain that she is happy to be here :-)
I would also like to thank everyone most sincerely who shared a story with me of a cherished kitty who has gone to the bridge. I could hear your love in every word and I know how painful it can be sometimes to summon those memories.

We are purring for Molly daily and hope she is feeling better.
We think Molly will be around for a long time to come!
Visit our blog today if you can, we have given you an award. Purrs!
Hope Molly perks up and is feeling better today and each day until things are back to normal.
Just stopped over at the VSquillion shelter and saw your message. I thought I was all caught up on all so please email me at: gracie1915@verizon.net
Please again let me know which VSquillion you were wanting, name, and blogg address. I will check through the paper work and see what the hold up is. Maybe the email monster ate it. If so we can send another and your VSquillion will be with you soon.
WE are sending Molly lots of purrs and prayers - to feel good, and we know that she will have a happy life with you for the rest of the time she is here - hopefully that is a long time!
I'm so glad that hearing about everyone's experiences helped! I think it was such a good idea to ask. It sounds to me as if Molly is doing very well.
Sending you, Molly, and the boys, lots of purrs and good thoughts.
We think you are a good cat mom and we know you'll do whatever is right for Molly. We hope Molly stays around for a long time...with your love and good care, we know she will.
Mom gets sick, sick, sick with worry when either of us has ANY kind of health problem and since we hate it when she is not happy, we try our best to always be healthy. We hate it when Mom is sick, too. We wish we could just TELL Mom what ails us or what she can do, but, well, we can't and I think that is the hardest part for both sides. But we are very intuitive and Mom is pretty good, too, so up until now, we have gotten on pretty well...that and prayers!! Whenever Tiny or I feel sick, we hear Mom saying 'please help Tiny/Lautrec...please help Tiny/Lautrec...please help Tiny/Lautrec...' all day long and I think that helps. Of course, Mom isn't above taking us to the VET and sometimes just the sight of the VET makes us suddenly feel better!! Haha! We are rascals, aren't we?! We hope Molly is feeling better and that she is in no pain. We send her lots of purrs and Mom sends prayers. We hope it helps. Purrs, Lautrec and Tiny (Weezdabadcats)
We wish Molly the best of comfort and happiness in her "old age". And I think you are spot on about the eating. We have never had so senior a kitty as her, because ours all succumbed to some form of cancer when they were about 13 or so, but the clue they were not doing well was their eating and so we knew it was time to help them along.
Thanks for your suggestion about a baby gate for our deck - we did use one for a while, and it worked for a while, but dear Simba has become too crafty now, and knows how to hop over a gate, or the plastic netting. The best way of slowing him down is a lot of spikey plants in front of the netting across the stairway! He had a nice little time in his funhouse for about 30 minutes this morning, so maybe it will work to some degree.

That's wonderful, I knew there were lots of smart humans out there!
Molly, we are purraying furry hard that you feel and GET better!
It sounds very good to us!! Molly sounds like she is going to be around for quite some time to love on and to be loved! We send loving and healing thoughts to her! Lots of love, Debbie and Holly
It sure sounds like Molly has some life left in her. Don't give up on her right away if she stops eating. My motto has always been, wait one more day and then panic. And then another one more day. Like I said, you will know by her eyes when she is ready. Glad we could help you a little bit. Believe me, I go through all that everytime someone gets sick.
Sorry I didnt get here yesterday. I hope Mollie is better soon.. LOve GJ xx
Molly sounds like she is quite happy. You are so right a major tip off is when they refuse to eat. If she is eating and sleeping and eating and going to the litterbox, she is doing everything she needs to do.

PS
Tell Molly we all want her to stay around for a long long LONG time!
We are happy that Molly still enjoys her life and the food goes in..and comes out, too! ;-)
Perhaps the vet can cut out the worst of the mats the next time you visit...My Kona has mats and I try to keep them trimmed, one at a time...
