Update on Casper

Hi all, Casper here.

I was back at the clinic on Sunday for a recheck.  This time mum was able to get an appointment with the vet that she openly adores who was out of town when we went in before.  He said it was definitely chin acne and not rodent ulcers or some sinister fungus. What a relief!  He also said sometimes it can take a couple of months for the chin acne to clear up and we should keep bathing the area with the Chlorhexidene anti-bacterial soap daily.  Luckily I don't mind having my chin washed, I just lie on my back in dad's arms with my head hanging upside down and mum cleans me and tells me I am a very good boy!!!

Thank you so much to everyone who left a comment last week and suggested treatments, it was very helpful :-)

Whew, this is a relief! Thanks for the update, it's good news. Even better will be when the acne has cleared up!

Purrs from us and smooches from our mom. ('Cause we're manly mancats and only smooch ladycats, you know.)

Dear Casper, We're glad your lovely vet got your chin sorted out. You're a lovely boy (our Pansy Cat thinks you are super gorgeous).

That is terrific news Casper. We were worried about that silly chin of yours. Glad it wasn't anything complicated. If that is a recent picture, it sure looks better. I didn't realize it took so long for something like that to heal. Yay Casper for being such a good boy getting the chin bathes. Take care.

What is it about white cats and feline acne!?! My Muffin has a tendency towards it and Eli will from time to time.

We really like Chlorhexidene, and hopefully it will clear up right quick.

That is good news to know it is chin acne, discouraging it takes a long time, but wonderful that Casper is so easy about being washed. Cannot imagine the cats at our house being cooperative about the chin washing.

Yay Casper what great news!! Mom completely understands about 'openly' admiring one vet over another. I have a mutual admiration going on with my vet of choice.
Enjoy the extra chin rubs...they are most delightful.

Whew! What a relief! Chin acne is a much nicer diagnosis. Actually, Dante had that when he was younger and was put on antibiotic pills.

I hope the soap works soon. I imagine it would feel good to have your chin washed with warm water.
It sound like he doesn't have a care in the world!

So glad your favourite doctor was able to tell your mom exactly what was the matter. Now that she knows, between the two of them, they'll fix you right up!

Phew! I think we all have had to deal with a zit or two in our lives...I use a soft dry toothbrush on Kona's chin to loosen up the blackheads. A nail brush would work as well. She loves it and I think it helps slough off old skin, too.

Good news! And who doesnt mind extra chin 'scritches' and being told how good you are?? For the extra attention he might try to make the acne hang around, MOL!

We are glad to hear it is acne and nothing more sinister.

Like Katnip Lounge, above, I also loosen blackheads and clogged pores on my cat's chin with a soft dry brush.

I use a baby toothbrush, because the bristles are so soft, and Zoey really enjoys it. It has helped immensely!

sorry we missed your post last week, Cody is the King of Chin Acne and he also has had something on his mouth that is like a rodent ulcer (but it isn't exactly that) since he was a kitten.

Glad your problem should clear up soon!

The Adventures of Scarlett and Melly said...

What a relief that it's only acne! That's still annoying, but way better than some nefarious fungal thing. And thank goodness you are cooperative during treatment--that makes things much easier!

Thank Cod! And we hopes yous gets back to normal soon!

Sorry I has been out of touch for so long dear Prince Casper, I didn't even know about your acne. Socks has that, we has some acne pads the vet recommended to wipe the area under his chin off. It cleared right up after just a few days. Good thing cause he did not approve of the chin washing.

I'll be right over to give you some loving licks and healing purrs. ~Your, Mouse

Phew! We are so happy it's just acne Casper, though it's not nice for a fella to have a breakout, that chlorhexidine will work it's magic and your chops will soon be back to their former glory.

We've got stainless steel water and feeding bowls now because we had acne once. We have bad limescale issues with the water at our house and the limescale seemed to stick on the ceramic bowls we had before. So now the apes have to scrub our bowls with trigene every day when they change the water. We haven't had zits since yay!
