Funny Friday

We have such a tiny house that there is essentially no front hall.  Once you come inside from the porch you spill directly into the living room.  This of course makes me nuts and our next house MUST have a front hall, but I digress…

Excuse me but I think I was here first

The non-front hall is not an issue in the summer but winter in Canada is another story.  Robert and I come and go out the back door where we have a sunroom/mudroom with a wardrobe for coats and a runner for dirty boots, but when guests come over they use the front and I take their coats upstairs.

I'm in heaven!

This Christmas we bought a small mat for the front door so people could wipe their wet or snowy shoes and I figured after the winter is over we would probably just chuck it…how was I to know the cats would LOVE this silly little mat!

You can't ignore me forever Jimmy

It's the funniest thing, they take turns on the mat, covet time on the mat and wrestle each other off the mat.  What is the appeal?  It is an unattractive, cheap, rubber-backed mat from the Costco and you would think it was heated cashmere the way they fuss over it.

Get lost Ben it's my turn!

The other day I actually saw Jimmy on the mat squirming around on his back (in ecstasy?) with all fours in the air!  I just don’t get it... do you?

LOL! This is further proof that the less you pay for something, the more cats tend to like it!

MOL Ms. Cat we cats have excellent taste in floor coverings. In my humble opinion, the Costco special might actually be cashmere in disguise. Just sayin
Sincerely Madi

Cat that is hilarious...of course the kitties like it..they sense that you don't and there it sits in your front room. I love the color doesn't show dirt but it must feel good to the kitties.

Strange, I wonder if it is the smell of it they like?

Ha! Maybe it's nice and scratchy to roll on? My cats always like to be on extra layers: rugs on carpet, extra blankets on the bed, even just paper on the floor. I don't know what it is, but maybe that's why your kitties like the mat?

never fails - ignore the cats stuff but be ALL over the other stuff (btw - mom kind of likes the pattern of the rug)

I'm thinking a mat like that would hide my uh, well, scoot marks.

Hi there all you Cats Cats. Our blog is fixed, thank heavens. We had no idea it would be fixed this soon.
That is hysterical about the mat that the cats love. Leave to the kitties to fall in love with the mat. It must feel good to them. It is like a cat sitting on a tiny little piece of paper. You just never know. Hugs to everyone.

LOL, they get it because their kitties. They are also attracted to the smell I bet.

Happy weekend to you!

It's new, therefore it is good. If you start acting like you love the fact that they love it, call them over to it and play with them on it, they'll avoid it like the plague!

We bet they must really like the feel of that rug for some reason.

I get it! Cats think that EVERYTHING that is brought into the house is theirs!!! For some reason the material must feel quite comfortable to them. Looks like you have to keep it!

Sparkle said...

Wow, that mat sounds pawsome! Unfortunately, it would not fit in our small, turret of an entryway. Maybe my human should get one and use it instead of a rug in the living room.

No, my human doesn't get the appeal either - but that should not stop her from doing my bidding.

mol! it's a Cat Law: now if you were to get a special rug just for the kitties, they would ignore it! :D

Our dreaded red rug is the same for Teddy. he loves it and sleeps on it all the time. Mum was going to throw it out when we moved house but Teddy loves it too much.

Must be something Costco puts in their mats! We have a soft green and taupe rug from Costco right in front of the door and I've lost count of the times we hear a soft thump as we come home and open the door - yes, one of the cats is sitting comfortably on the rug and they don't even move when they hear the sound of the key. In fact, I just headed out with one of the dogs a few minutes ago (for that handy "pit stop" just outside the door and Angel was sitting on the rug, grudgingly moving over a few inches as we came over to the door.

It's so funny!! It is just like kitties love ordinary things (bathroom tissue, cotton swab, etc) rather than fancy, expensive toys :-)
Looks like they really enjoy it. Maybe I should shop for ordinary inexpensive mat for my kitties :-)

I think my mats at the front door (alas, like your house, mine has no hall) are even cheaper - certainly uglier - but my cats like to take a roll on them now and then, too. I think it's the closest they can come to annoying me with a roll in dirt outside. My cats are indoors only, so they have to improvise...

Memories of Eric and Flynn said...

It must be something in the texture. We used to have an old coir mat in the porch and Flynn used to go bananas over it. You would have thought it was made of pure nip! I think he still has not forgiven me for binning it.

Sweet Purrfections said...

We sure would like to try out that mat. It must really be something special.

Nope, but the same thing happens here. Whenever I get a rug the cats and Fenris act like its the best thing since sliced bread.

It's really funny to watch the cats run Fenris off the rug cause they want it.

Oh wow, it's BEAUTIFUL!!!! You can't see it???

Must mean I'm a kitty....

Catherine said...

Hmmm...maybe that mat is made out of nip or something! Haha!

I hear you on the bad entrance way. We have a bi-level. So you walk in and immediately go upstairs or downstairs. 2 people can barely stand on the landing at once. So during the Canadian winters the mat is always wet and there is always snow puddles on the floor. Not fun when you run downstairs in your sock feet and step right into a puddle! Our next house is going to have a great big entrance way!!!

Happy Sunday Cat!

MOL! Maybe there are some 'nip strands in that rug. :)

It's like when you buy a new cat tree or scratching post for the kits, and they end up liking the box it came in best!

Hugs!

Only the scents make sense, hehe! You have very interesting guests who have very interesting place they've been. Besides, who's not to say it's the design?? Looks like the kitties curl up purrfectly within the swirls!!
