Little Ash had to be back at the animal hospital on Saturday to find out what is happening with his ears and head. The furless patches that we noticed on the drive home had grown quite large and I was getting worried. Unfortunately Dr. D. who I trust and adore is out of town (and was away last weekend when I took Ash in on Sunday) but yesterday we saw a new partner at the practice who I felt was very thorough. Ash is a little bit of a mystery because his fungal culture for ringworm is not growing anything, but this vet said that was what he thought it was. He treated Ash for what he called "the big three" which are infection, parasite (mange) and fungus (ringworm). He got an antibiotic injection and the poor lamb has to wear a cone because he can't lick the anti-fungal cream which has to be applied twice a day. I feel terrible for our little man, he is so lovely and affectionate and doesn't understand whats going on. If it is ringworm it could be weeks that he has to be separated from the other cats! As it is I was told to wear gloves when I touch him and when I come out of his room I must change my clothes! It is a tiresome protocol, but I have to protect Casper, Ben and Archie too.
I'll keep everyone posted on his progress. The vet said hopefully we would see some improvement by Tuesday and to call him and we can discuss the situation then. In the meantime, please keep Ash in your prayers and purrs.

Poor Ash, having to wear the cone of shame! Is he wearing one of those hard plastic ones? Because there are other, gentler, non-plastic ones that might do just as well.
I really hope this is something that is not going to take weeks to clear up. It's just not fair having to put the little guy through that.
Aw, poor little Ash, he's already been through much! We're purring and purraying for him, sending Light that this clears up SOON. Big smooches to him from our mom and kitty kisses from us. We'll add him to our Purrs Page on our blog!
Cat,
I am so sorry little Ash is having problems. It must be very worrying and distressing. Hopefully they will have some answers soon and the treatment can then be honed to suit his condition.
In the meantime ~ please give him lots of love from us all. Milo and Alfie send healing purrs.

Poor baby Ash! I send my best purrs for him.
Oh, dear. We are sorry to hear about this. Will purr lots.
Poor Ash and poor Cat have to worry about him.If the culture isn't growing anything, that is good. Hopefully he will begin to show some improvement by Tues. We have all our paws crossed and are sending all kinds of purrs and prayers. Take care and hang in there. He is going to be all right.
Poor little Ash. He doesn't know what is happening. What a lot of work to do for mom, but it is for safety.
My sisters and I are on it, mega-purrs headed your way sweet Ash!
We're purring that Ash gets better really quickly!
We are sending healing purrs to Ash. We wonders if maybe he lost his hair due to stress, since the culture didn't grow anything. We thinks a long journey even to a fabulous new home would have to be stressful for him.
Da Boys & their Feeders are sending lots and lots of purrrs & prayers!!!
We're sending big purrs to sweet Ash! Poor little guy! I had a cat with ringworm when I was younger and it was very difficult in a multi-cat household so we're purring that it isn't ringworm!
Sending our warmest and most healing purrs to sweet little Ash!
So sorry your little Ash is having this problem and we hope it goes away soon......Kassey
Oh, poor little Ash! What a thing to be going through for all of you! We are purring for the doctors to find the answers and for Ash to be better quickly.

Wow...poor baby Ash!! Just NOT FUNNY!! Tiny and I both had some kind of parasite a couple of months ago and poor Tiny's face was rather scabby because she had been scratching at it (around her eyes especially) a lot and I had something in my ears, but the vet gave us each a shot and it soon went away. Poor, poor Ash...we are sending lots and lots of purrs that Ash recovers quickly and that you are able to contain any spreading of it. Courage to you Momcat Cat (ha!! our Mom's name is Cat, too!)...and thank you for taking care of Ash so well. Purrs, Lautrec and Tiny and licks from puppy Ellwood
Aw, the poor little dude. I hope they're able to figure out what's wrong with him soon and get him all fixed up. We're sending good vibes and purrs!
BIG HUGE purrs coming your way from all of us. Little Ash, we hope the vet can fix you up quick and you can meet your new Cat family.
Mommy sends you tummy raspberries! She does great ones, we hope you enjoy it.
We are sending our very best purrs for sweet little Ash. When Harley lived at the shelter, he had ringworm all over his face for over a month!
I am sending my deepest bestest purrs Baby Ash. You get all better really soon, precious baby.
Oh poor Ash...I am so sorry to hear this. If it is a ringworm, it will take weeks to heal and yes, it is very tiresome. But please be patient. Good news is that ringworm heals with proper care.
My kids are sending purrs. I hope his condition will improve.
Aw poor Ash! There are 2 cats at the shelter (brother and sister) who lost quite a bit of their fur - for no known reason! Tests were run, and the vet was just baffled. Eventually their fur grew back. We hope there is nothing majorly wrong with little Ash.
oh dear Ash.
We hope that they are able to discover exactly what it is and treat it quickly.
Also just in case your Mom doesn't know, the Pet stores around here do make a soft cone which is much MUCH easier than the plastic ones the Vet places provide. Just in case you must wear one for any length of time.
We hope you don't have to wear one for long.
We will purr for you sweetie.

We heard about little Ash from Milo and Alfie. We're sending him lots of purrs that he gets better soon!
Oh poor Ash! We sure hope the vet can figure out what's going on and he'll be feeling better soon. We're purring for him and for you too, Cat, because we know how stressful this must be.
Oh poor baby! We're purring for you Ash.
We're sending Ash many many purrs. We are sorry, too, that he has to wear an Elizabethan collar! Those are no fun. We hope he gets better very soon.
Love and purrs from Franklin, Tasha, Dobby, and mom Katie
P.S. Dobby had pulled out most of the hair on his tail and rear end when we adopted him. It ended up being stress-related and we finally had to put him on tranquilizers for a while.
Poor Ash! Purrs to you cutie pie!
Oh! That Sucks!
Hope you feel better soon

Ash, darling. How are you today? Me and mommy send our love.
Oh Ash....we are purraying that whatever is ailing you is found and that the cure can begin! We are purring really hard for you, little buddy!
Poor little Ash - there is so much going on in his life at the moment - new homes, new family, long journey - perhaps it is stress related. We hope it can be treated easily when the vet has decided what it is and he can enjoy being with his new family soon.
Thanks for the kind words for Lucy - we are at the vets again later.
Poor little Ash, I hope you can determine what is causing this. All he wants to do is love on his new family...
Cat - I have sent you an e-mail as well. I am experiencing some bald spots on my Roxie's ears and head area as well. We think it might be allergy related.
Purrs and hugs to Ash..
Purrrrrs and prayers for Ash!!! We hope he gets better real quick!!
Your TX furiends,
Hi Ben! Wanna come over and play in my paper bag?
Purrrrrs,
Clementine
SQUEE!!! Sounds like fun Clemmie, I am so there! ~Ben xx
Oh yes! You can easily spread ringworm to your other cats, and you can catch it too! Maw caught it from cats when she volunteered with a rescue group. And then she gave it to several of our cats here at the house! So be very careful, and wash your hands and yes, change your clothes. It takes a long time to get rid of ringworm. But, all will be just fine eventually.

Poor Ash! Just when he thought everything was going to settle down!
It sounds like you're doing everything possible to help him, and I'm sure that with the vet's help and medication he'll be fine in no time. However, it's quite distressing in the meantime for you and little Ash. To think you have to pet him with gloves on!
He looks like a spirited little guy, and so cute in his cone, even if he doesn't like it.
We're purring for him to get better right quick!
Dear God in heaven, hasn't this little fellow suffered enough! We are starting right now to pray for Ash. We are a large multicat home and we have had only one case of ringworm but it was a toughie. Shots, pills and the cream took care of it though. We got a soft e-collar because Puff got depressed wearing the hard one, like you have. We practiced good hand washing and had no spread.to any of the other 10 (at the time) cats. We had several tests come back negative before a culture, that needed to be sent away, made the definitive diagnosis.
PS. We would take his collar off when we were home with him. We held him a lot to compensate for the collar.
We came over from Milo and Alfie's. We hope the vet can figure out the problem and treat it quickly. Many of these skin issues are not dangerous but they are very annoying to deal with!
Purrs,
The Chans
We hope everything turns out ok for Ash. I must say, he looks pretty content wearing the cone. The ones I have with Sadie and her cone, she looks quite sad.
