Ash and the Cone

For those of you who were wondering, I take Ash's cone off when I am with him. I asked my vet about using a soft cone (which doesn't seem to be available in Canada, but I could always order it from the States) but he said they were no good and come off all the time.  So unfortunately it seems we are stuck with the hard cone for the duration.  But we have cuddles and play several times a day without the cone and he runs and jumps and gets a great work out mostly with Amy's "Da Bird" that she gave us. Ash just loves it! But if he starts to scratch at his ears or try to lick them I have to put the cone back on because the vet said prolonged ingestion of the anti-fungal cream can cause liver damage and he has to have the cream applied until the 14th. So I'm trying to be very careful, but still give him some freedom.  Ash seems to take it all in stride, it's me that is the wreck (lol)! The great thing about Ash though is he doesn't seem to be the type to hold a grudge :-)

What a little sweetheart, he is! Yes, cats don't seem to worry as much as we beans do, do they?

Oh, to have their ability to go with the flow!

I'm sure Ash is just happy to be with you in his forever home, and everything else is just minor.

Get better soon, Ash!

Sweet Ash, you are such a wonderful boy and have such a wonderful mom taking care of you. We hope you are 100% well very soon!

Maggie May became very well acquainted with the dreaded cone when she had her knee surgeries. She hated that thing.

Oh Ash, we are sorry you have to endure the cone, but it's for the best. Can you pick up any good tv channels? :).

Our mom asks if you have seen the Comfy Cone brand? She got one of those for our doggy bro when he needed to wear a cone. They are soft yet sturdy (and don't gouge walls ;/).

Purrs- Pip, Smidgen, Minnie

That is the funny thing about us kitties - our humans stress out about us more than we stress out about us! Even so, I am sure Ash will be happy when the 14th comes around and he is e-collar free once again.

Oh we are so behind - I am so sad to read that Ash is stuck in a cone and that his patches are bigger. I hope that the medicine is working and that he is ok soon. He is just such a sweetie I am not surprised he is taking it so well. And I am so glad that he like the Da Bird - it is super popular at our house too (and the best part is that you can get replacement feathers - if they don't have them up there let me know and we can send some!) I have to hide it from my cats it is so popular! We are sending him tons of purrs and prayers to get better very soon!!!

Oh, yes, we too dread the cone! Sorry you have to go through this, Ash and Cat. Big purrs and prayers coming your way ... hopefully, you'll be all better and cone-free soon. :)

Poor Ash. But getting better is what matters most, right?

Ash, I can't believe you're putting up with that horrible collar thing so well. I know you're only young, but I'd advise starting to pretend you hate it. You'll make your people feel more guilty that way and that in the long run means more treats and scratchings, even if she thinks she needs to be busy with something else! I've never had one, but the human said that Anna, another cat who owned her, had one when she had her ladygardenectomy. She didn't like it at all! I hope your people takes yours off soon.

I think maybe Ash knows you are doing good things for him so he is just putting up with it.

Ash is clearly a sweet adorable boy and we will be happy for you BOTH when the cone can come off. Does the medication seem to be working now? We are sending him more healing purrs and smoochies.

Oh noes...we are just cat-ching up with visiting and just learned of the fungus amongus...

We had to battle that about 5 years ago when we brought in a new cat and it was nooooo fun. Most of the adults stayed immune, but not the moms and kits. We had to pill and dip and disinfect the whole house but our hard work paid off and it has never returned. That is what you have to do in a multi-cat house with kittens especially. We followed UC Davis Vet School Shelter Medicine protocol. You may not need to do that but here's the link so you can learn more about it:

Kittens are very forgiving and resilient...adults would make a big fuss about wearing a 'party hat'...
