Jimmy
finally has a diagnosis. His second culture results came in and he has a Methicillin-resistant Staph infection
(MRS
); this is responsible for the bald patches he had when we got him and also the continued skin problems he has been experiencing. He is on a twenty-one day course of Baytril and hopefully that will fix him up. The vet said that Casper, Ben and Archie should be fine as they are all healthy and the only danger is if one of the cats, or us for that matter, had a compromised immune system or was recovering from surgery. I am relieved to finally have a definitive answer and even though what I read on google was pretty scary, I am optimistic that the medication will be effective and we will soon have this all behind us.

Jimmy is a lovely little fellow and I couldn't be happier with the way he is getting along with the boys. He loves attention and to snuggle with us and this health situation does not in any way diminish what a wonderful addition he is too our family.

Awwww! What a sweet picture of Ben and Jimmy touching noses! I'm glad that you finally know the cause of Jimmy's troubles so he can get the proper medication to fix him up for good.
By the way, your were right, I forgot to upload Archie and Ben's picture on the LOLSpot. I have done so now, but most people have probably missed it, so I'll likely use it again before Christmas.
Hoping for a complete recovery for Jimmy!!!
A word of advice from my vet and MY Internist (because I Google, just like you do)....
"DON'T!!!!!!!"
You will find the worst case scenarios...I do the same thing and it puts me in a frenzy! Don't do it! xoxoxo

My goodness...I had no idea kitties could get MRSA (that's what they call it here). I had it come years ago and was in the hospital for a week and a half on antibotics! No idea how I got it but they got rid of it finally. Many prayers going out to Jimmy from us. Now that he is on the right antibotic, that boy should be fine! Hug him for me! Lots of love, Debbie and Holly
Jimmy is such a happy little man cat and we hope he will be clear of the infection very soon.

Well...bad/good news but now he can get on with getting over it, Yay! We have only had one MRSA infection diagnosed where I work and that was on a chronic URI cat that lived with 2 hospital workers...wonder if they gave it to the cat?
MRSA is a bad thing.
We didn't realize that cats could get it.
But we are glad that you did get the diagnosis and that it is being combated with the antibiotics. We are glad Jimmy is doing so well and will continue to do even better!

Hello little twin (Mini-Cloon). I'z got my paws crossed for you that Baytril will work, I'm sure it will. Baytril and purr-ayers are what worked for me when I had something goin' on with my ear. So Purr-ayers to you Jimmy. You seem to be a very good sport and hey, of course, you'z the cutest...
Sweet Jimmy, we are purring because now we know what is happening with you and now your mom and dad can make sure you get the right treatment! Big purrs for a happy and healthy 2011 baby boy!
a diagnosis is so important!! I'm glad they were able to figure it out, and my best wishes that the baytril clears it right up.
Thanks for the tip on cleaning "Peter" I'll have to give that a go when I feel comfortable giving him another bath.
(and yes, Ollie is dealing with VAS. we've removed the tumor three times)
