The New Bed...

Yesterday we had a new bed delivered, or more accurately the frame.  This caused great excitement among the cats as three huge boxes were brought into the house.  The bed is a king size which posed a bit of a logistical problem because our home is not....

Our tiny beach house is about 100 years old, with uneven floors and only two closets in the entire place if you can believe that!  We have three bedrooms but they are little.  The master luckily has a slanted roof alcove at one end so my dresser (Robert's is in another room entirely) tucks nicely out of the way leaving a decent amount of floor space but the bed will take up just about the whole room.

The funny thing is that the mattress and box springs were delivered separately about a month ago but because the frame was a custom order from this company in California which specializes in iron beds, the delays have been endless!  So we have been sleeping with our new mattress on the floor for a while like a couple of hippies – LOL!!!

I must admit I love having a big bed.  The cats rarely sleep on Robert’s side, but I am regularly pinned down by all four.  I used to think king beds were gauche and for years I refused to even consider one.

Robert persisted mostly because he is tall (6’ 3”) and I think he wanted to lie diagonally without bothering me so his feet wouldn’t hang over the end.  Then after we got Jimmy who is an up-close night time cuddler I finally said to Robert that yes we now had to get the king bed because I just couldn’t take the crowding anymore.   I know Jim is just wee but four really made a difference!

I think the bed was well worth the wait and is absolutely gorgeous.  It's large yes, but the open bars give it an airy feel and it really isn't as overpowering as I was afraid it would be.

Can you see the crystal knobs :-)

  1. We have a king sized bed, and it is great! There is room for every kitty and two humans! Of course, we all crowd all over my human usually, especially in the morning when it is close to breakfast time.

  6. That is a beautiful bed!!!
We had the 'overcrowding' problem too, with four cats on my side of the bed and I'm sandwiched between them and Zip. Some nights I could hardly breathe!
I decided to go to a separate bedroom since there's no way we could get a king bed up our stairs. We now all sleep so much better!
Love your bedding! It does look nice and light and airy!!!

  7. The mom says you made the right choice not to put a heavy, solid bed frame in a small room. :-)

    It looks great!

She and her ex used to have a king-sized bed, but she got rid of it after they split up. She has a queen-sized now, but complains we take up too much room--and there only are two of us. LOL. What will she do when she gets her desired new bed, a double? We'll take the bed then, and she can sleep elsewhere! :-P

  8. The new bed looks great! You're right ... even though it takes up a lot of floor space, it has sort of an airy feel so the room doesn't look cramped. We've been thinking about a king-sized bed, too, seeing as how our cats play the how-much room-can-I-possibly-take-up-on-the-queen-sized-bed game. MOL

  18. We have a king size bed at our house - our house is pretty small too, but not quite as small as yours. Even with that, I still could use one that is a bit bigger, because with as many cats as we have they take a lot of room!

It is great that you have a bit more room now - and yet you will still be able to have them on the bed to snuggle with you!!

  20. WOW what a gorgeous bed and well worth the wait.
I know the kitties appreicate that you bought it just for them. LOL What is it that makes a 10 pound sleeping cat feel like 100 pounds of lead...and why does she have to sleep right in between my legs?
I hope all 6 of you seelp well.

  24. About a month ago we purchased a temperpedic ergonomic kingsize bed. The cats get all freaked out when it moves up and down. :-)

    Your bed is absolutely beautiful.

  29. Your new bed is gorgeous!! Yes I can see the crystal knobs! They are so beautiful.
I can tell your kitties are more excited with boxes rather than bed :-) I often have hard time throwing away empty boxes because my kids want to play with them.
Have a great weekend and good night sleep!
